Hamster Language: How to Interpret Your Hamster’s Body Language and Sounds

It’s easy for us to chat, text or just talk with our friends. But how does our hamster get along with his friends? In the same way, okay, maybe not like us. Hamsters have a fairly simple language: body language and vocalizations. Some of the sounds they make are ultrasonic. That way predators or humans can’t hear them when they talk.

Does your hamster stretch and yawn? This means that he feels happy or that he is a little tired. It’s not a good idea to try to play with him now because he might bite you. You would do the same if you were pulled out of bed by a huge hand the moment you woke up.

Is your hamster sitting on its hind legs, ears forward, not moving? That is a sign that the hamster is listening to something very interesting that caught its attention.

Is your hamster sitting on its hind legs in a battle stance, with its front legs up? Hamsters often stand like this when threatening their cage mates or even you.

Is your hamster collecting bedding and food in its cheek pouches? If he is putting all this in her bags when he is out of the cage, it means that the hamster feels that the food or bedding you give it is not enough. On the other hand, if the hamster carries bedding and food from one corner of the cage to another, don’t worry. he is simply decorating his cage the way he likes. Sometimes stuffing and collecting food from him is not a sign of anything. the hamster likes to fill his bags.

Is your hamster chewing on the bars of the cage? He is trying to tell you that he is bored, that he needs chew toys, or that he is just stressed.

Is your hamster digging? Of course it is! Digging is what they like to do the most.

Is your hamster biting? If not, you are lucky. Hamsters usually bite when they are upset about something or when they want attention from us.

So as you can see, every little thing your hamster does has meaning. Be careful with his behavior and soon you will be able to understand your hamster.
