Why use custom cabinets?

Are you planning a kitchen remodeling project for your home this summer? If so, one of the decisions you will undoubtedly make is whether to use factory-direct custom cabinetry or production-line cabinetry. It’s an important decision, that’s for sure.

Most homeowners will choose production line cabinets because it is a cheaper way to do it. That is understandable. In a tight economy, when people have less disposable income to spend on home renovations or room additions, budget constraints need to be met. However, if you only have a little more to spend, we recommend giving factory-direct custom cabinets a serious look.

Custom cabinets offer many advantages over production line products. These are only some of them:

• Incredible Designs – The beauty of custom cabinetry is that it can be designed specifically for your kitchen and unique needs. If you want your cabinets to focus on the way you do things in the kitchen, no problem. In addition, custom cabinetry providers often offer free designs and estimates with no obligations attached.

• Custom Countertops – Along with cabinetry, consumers who choose custom materials can get countertops not normally sold with production line cabinetry. For example, granite and quartz fabrication can provide a stunningly beautiful countertop surface that is also strong and durable. Custom cabinetry includes other countertop options like concrete, stainless steel, wood block and more.

• Quality Craftsmanship – Perhaps the biggest difference between custom cabinetry and production line materials is the quality of the craftsmanship. By definition, made-to-order products are created for each customer by an individual craftsman dedicated to that particular job. This generally results in a measurable improvement in quality. The cabinets on the production line are largely machine-made without regard to the individual project.

• Personalized Service – At the time of installation, customers typically get personal service from a contractor whose reputation is inextricably tied to custom cabinetry. That contractor will go to great lengths to make sure the customer is happy, or else they risk losing their association with the cabinetmaker. In some cases, the contractor is also the cabinetmaker. That’s even better!

• Solid Warranties – Whether you’re doing a complete home remodel or just redoing your kitchen, warranties are everything. When you choose custom cabinets, you’re likely to get a much stronger warranty than you would from a production line manufacturer. Skimping on warranties is not something you really want to do if you value your remodeling dollars.

Summer is remodeling time. It’s also time to consider making the switch from production-line cabinetry to factory-direct custom cabinetry. It will breathe new life into your kitchen while adding value that is sure to increase the selling price of your home when it is ready to sell.
