SRO Thieves Guide

Well, as a thief in SRO, you will need the following supplies:

1. Thief Suit: There are 2 types, the 10k black suit and the 1m black devil suit. According to Joymax, there is no difference other than looks and cost. They come in male and female, don’t forget to buy the correct gender. It can be bought in Thief Town.

2. Bandit Den Return Scrolls – These are different than normal return scrolls. They take you to the city of thieves. They also take about 5 minutes to complete (you’ll get 3-4 thief spawns during that time). Also, you can move and attack things while you wait. Make sure you have multiple as you may need to reboot. They are bought in thief town.

3. Transport: Some people like the horse because it is agile, others prefer the camel because it holds more and has more HP. I use a camel. Bring some. Buy them at the stable in any town.

4. Hunter Card: Yes, Hunter Card, it can be purchased from the Hunter Guild Merchant.

5. Health pill transport: 50-100 should be fine. Buy them at any barn, 3 sizes, large work well on most hauls, XL is great for oxen.

6. Friends: always have some around, although it is not necessary, it sure helps. The higher the level, the better.

There are some ways to be a thief. It’s hard at the lower levels, below 30 (SRO powerleveling, SRO Gold). Make sure you can kill any monsters in the area you are in, as well as your spawns. Initially, I’d recommend getting a group of thieves together to swarm a multistar, or even easier, find the loot on the ground and grab it. When you’re low level, you’ll want to hide with your loot while your scroll activates. I finally know when to say when. 4 stars is difficult to handle alone, 5 almost impossible, take only what you can handle.

1. This is a typical scenario. I see a lot of loot (more than 5 piles on the ground). I quickly scan the area for hunters (or angry merchants). I get up, put on my suit and call my transport. Note that you cannot summon a transport within 20 seconds of combat. So if you are in an aggressive area kill all the monsters first. Dismount your transport and start left clicking on the goods. Once you have them, right-click on your bandit lair, return to scroll, and walk away (more on this later).

Scenario #2. I see what I think is a multistar. First I examine your equipment. I wonder can I take them? Do I have zerk (useful but not necessary)? If so, then proceed.

2. Move away (out of sight), upgrade, dress up and call a transport (that stupid 20 second rule applies to attacking anything including merchants). If you wait to summon a transport, an opportunistic thief or friend of the guy you killed can suit up and take some or all of the loot first (remember that hunter card). If his level is close to mine, I wait until his thieves show up and then attack. Hit the biggest threat first, then move on to the next target. If they’re near a teleport area, take out their transport first. You have a choice, you can let their thieves kill the transport (saving fix points) or you do it yourself. I usually kill him because I want to get away fast. Kill his thieves at the end and then start grabbing the loot. Now go away.

Note: You have a few options here, kill the merchant or let him live. They will usually attack you so your choice is made. However, I also like to follow the “dead men tell no tales” rule. Kill them all, don’t pray, as they might follow you or lead the hunters towards you, thus ruining your fun.

3. Get away with loot.

Ok, now what? Much of this answer depends on your attitude, level, and number of friends with you. Before you start stealing, find some hiding places. They are everywhere. They can range from a mountain, the water, a bush or tree, or even a secluded place to grind.

4. Grab your loot, ACTIVATE YOUR MOVE and leave the area. Don’t start moving in the direction you really want to go unless you are very confident or in a great hurry. Misdirection is key to not being found and killed. If possible, have your friends watch in front of and behind you. It can also cause one to distract a hunter that may be nearby. Go to your favorite hideout and prepare to fight the spawns (or any hunters/traders that might pass by).

5. As your scroll nears the last 30 – 45 seconds, board your transport. It has a lot of hp, so if you get attacked, you might be able to survive better. If you have a 3 star or better it is advisable to have help. A double spawn with cold blades will ruin your day. Also, if you die, your loot is hidden and you can come back. Some people will sit in the middle of the road waiting for other multistars so they can attack and fill up your transport, this takes some guts but can be effective. Once your scroll runs out, congratulations, you are in the city of thieves.

How to spot a multistar

One way is to stalk a trade and wait for the thieves to show up, if they get 2 it can be a 2 star, or a double spawn on a 1 star, the only way to tell is to find another or put on their suit. Once you have your outfit on, you can double-click on a merchant (or their transport). If you start attacking, it’s a multistar, if you get a blue message about attacking a star, it’s a single. If you’re stalking, it’s a good idea to look from behind, just out of sight of the trader, but keeping your transport in sight.

village of thieves

This is where you buy your Thief Outfit, return Bandit Scrolls, and sell your loot. Loot is sold at face value (you weren’t really in it for the money, were you?). Selling loot clears Trader exp. There are 2 main NPCs, one that sells thief gear and one that buys loot. The other notable thing is the transporter. Using it is free and takes you to your spawn point. I recommend removing the thief suit before teleporting as it resets the cooldown timer. So you basically get there, sell your loot, finish your transport, follow it, and teleport away.
