Reserva Conchal Golf Community: the perfect option for retirees
The Reserva Conchal golf course is located in Guanaste, near the town of Brasilito and close to major attractions such as Playa Flamingo, Tamarindo and Playa Coco. This private golf course is part of the Reserva Conchal complex that houses the Paradisus Playa Conchal complex, of which you must be a guest to play this course.
This is one of my favorite courses in Costa Rica. The service is excellent, Carlos Rojas the Head Pro will treat you like a king. The staff are very well trained, courteous and go out of their way to make sure you have a great round of golf. The Reserva Conchal golf course is a Robert Trent Jones II design that has a combination of easy and difficult holes. What makes this course special is the mix of tropical jungle and seascapes.
My favorite hole is the 17th hole – a gigantic 210-yard par 3 whose elevated tee box offers a spectacular view of Playa Conchal and the mountains in the background. That’s the only ‘nice’ thing – you have to hit a 200 yard shot into the wind over the water if you’re playing off the back tees. (Don’t worry, there’s a 150-yard option for us mortals.)
My nemesis is the 10th hole. This dogleg for 4 looks easy, but I ended up on the left OB, even though I played with an iron! Then you are left with a long iron to a green that is protected by a deep bunker on the left, water on the left, out of bounds on the left. Guess where I hit, to the left. I recommend playing early in the morning around 6am to avoid the midday heat.
If you don’t mind the heat, opt for the all you can play packages they offer. Personally, I’m the type of person who goes to the pool bar.
If you are looking to live in Guanacaste, Reserva Conchal should be at the top of your list. It is a mature development with a real golf course that you can play today. It is also part of a beautiful resort and you will always have things to do there. Alternative golf courses in Reserva Conchal are Hacienda Pinilla in the Tamarindo area.
