Remodel Your Bathroom For Under $1,000 – 3 Tricks That Can Save You Thousands

Remodeling your bathroom can be an easy way to add value to an older home or change the look of a newer home. Many home improvement programs do these lavish remodels that cost thousands of dollars, but a modern bathroom can be had for less than $1,000.

In saying that, I am making assumptions. 1) that you are not changing the layout or moving any walls. 2) that you don’t have to move any plumbing or replace any wiring. 3) that you will do the work yourself. If these three factors don’t come into play in your bathroom remodel, then you’re in good shape.

Let’s start with the tile. Since most bathrooms tend to take up little space, the amount of tile needed won’t be much unless you’re also tiling the walls. Trick #1: Look for clearance deals at discount stores and home goods stores. Most tile shops and manufacturers will discount lines that have been closed or will no longer be sold. Since you won’t need a lot of tile, it’s usually pretty easy to find a style you like without paying full price at big box stores.

Next, we will move on to the bathroom vanity or bathroom cabinet. There is a wide variety of styles and price ranges for bathroom vanities on the market. While many large decorative vanities come pre-assembled at big-box home supply stores, you can actually buy a better quality cabinet and save a lot of money by shopping online. Trick #2: Look online for manufacturers and importers who sell direct to the consumer. There are numerous suppliers of RTA bathroom vanities that sell the same styles you see at Home Depot and Lowes, but they make them with better materials and are able to sell them cheaper by cutting out the middleman. RTA bathroom vanities come ready to assemble and the case is usually made of plywood instead of the particle board that big box stores use. You can easily save 30-40% by buying them outright, and they usually have a full line of matching accessories to go with them.

Once you’ve chosen your bathroom floor and vanity, it’s time to move on to painting. Since it is a bathroom and there will be a lot of moisture in the air, it is better to choose a higher quality paint. As you may well know, painting can be expensive, even in a small room. Trick #3: Look in the discount aisle of the paint store first. The discount aisle is often full of paintings that were returned because they were the wrong color. Since the paint has already been mixed and is usually a color they don’t have in stock, they will sell these paints at a discount. By shopping in the discount aisle, you can save up to 25-30%. A word of caution. Make sure you know exactly how much paint you’ll need. The last thing you want to do is start painting your bathroom and be left without a custom color!

By following these simple tricks, you’re on your way to saving hundreds on your bathroom remodel.
