On cushions and pillows
HAS Cushion is a soft bag usually of some fancy material, filled with wool, feathers, polyester staple fiber, etc., also known as a throw pillow or throw pillow, which is a cushion that is purely decorative and not designed to provide support or comfort. It can be used to soften the hardness or angle of a chair or sofa.
HAS Pillow It is a great support cushion for the head, usually used while sleeping on a bed, or for the body, such as used on a sofa or chair. A pillow is designed to provide support and comfort to the body. There are three main types of pillows/cushions with some uses of one type being found in the other as well.
Decorative cushions, Bed pillows and Orthopedic pillows. We will talk only about the first two types in this article.
Decorative pillows: Decorative cushions have two uses. They usually have stylish cushion covers that help enhance the look of the room. Even when used as part of a bedspread set, to make a perfect bedDecorative cushions are not used for sleeping and are normally removed at bedtime, so while they are on the bed, as their main function is decoration, they are called Decorative Cushions.
Decorative cushions are also found in other areas of the house or hotel, such as living rooms, studies, lounges, lobby seats, etc. in Sofas, chairs, armchairs, window seats, etc. Here they are placed in such a way that they appear to be ‘thrown’ or ‘tossed’ casually! (Hence throw cushion)
These throw pillows or accent pillows always match or contrast the color scheme/theme of the area in such a way that they always bring out the best qualities of the theme/furniture/room/color scheme. Hence it is also called ‘Decorative cushions/cushions.
Floor cushions are another type of decorative cushion used for sitting or kneeling. These pillows often end in 24″ x 24″ or 30″ x 30″.
bed pillows:
The classic bed pillow shape is usually a rectangle, sometimes with 1″ to 2″ wide flaps around all edges or with 4 pointed corners. Body pillows are usually 140 cm long and are often useful for providing support for side sleepers and pregnant women. Similar pillows are available in Japan with anime-style images on them and called Dakimakura.
european farce: A decorative cushion cover that fits a 26″ x 26″ cushion. They are placed behind the standard size pillowcases as a backdrop for all other pillows.
neck roll: Small cylindrical decorative cushions; also called reinforcement.
toilet pillows: Small rectangular decorative cushions also known as breakfast cushions.
