Mylin – American girl with a great American story
The sensational singer-songwriter Mylin is a great American story. Mylin’s fifth album, aptly titled American Girl, expresses her heartfelt story. The title track, “American Girl,” is Mylin’s autobiography, an uplifting and empowering anthem.
Born in the Philippines to a father in the US Navy and a Filipino mother, Mylin’s father was pressured to return to the US without her and her mother. Months later, on the day that 18-year-old Mylin’s father was to leave, he was in a motorcycle accident. Badly injured in the hospital, he decided that he didn’t want to spend the rest of his life without Mylin and her mother. They got married in the Philippines. Baby Mylin and her mother were flown back to the US on a C-130 military cargo plane, with the bodies of deceased US soldiers. The trip lasted a week and a half. Mylin calls it “God’s first intervention” keeping her parents together.
Mylin accepted Christ at the tender age of 7 and then rededicated her life to the Lord at age 14, just before Disney selected her out of tens of thousands of children across the US. -Breeding Ground of Stars, The Mickey Mouse Club (Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera). After three years starring on the show (which was like today’s American Idol), Mylin was hounded by major US and foreign record labels.
At age 18, while living in New York, Mylin became involved with what she thought was a church, which later turned out to be a cult. Mylin’s parents (who live in Florida) traveled all the way to New York to rescue her from that ordeal of hers and brought her home. It was during this time that Mylin grew in her understanding of salvation by grace, after which her burden was eased.
Mylin was sworn in as a US citizen and signed her first record deal with Avex, Inc., one of Japan’s major record labels. Mylin spent the next four years touring Japan and Southeast Asia, releasing four albums, including a Greatest Hits recording. She has sold more than 80,000 albums and has been included on more than 50 compilation albums, selling more than 1 million copies. She topped many international charts, sharing chart space with everyone from Alanis Morissette, Mariah Carey, U2, Sheryl Crow, and Madonna, to Janet Jackson, Linkin Park, and Destiny’s Child. Whether she is putting smiles on the faces of Japan and Korea, or singing the national anthem at Major League Baseball and NBA games, Mylin’s velvety voice warms hearts and ignites the passion of patriotism.
As the inner woman and artist matured, Mylin, who plays guitar and piano, decided she wanted to put pen to paper and take the time to express her story, on her terms. Seeking not to compare herself to others, Mylin, finding her safety in the Lord, fearlessly began to write songs.
Mylin’s confidence and willingness to follow God have paid off as she has become a great cheerleader. His shows have included the Celebrity Theater in Las Vegas, the Key Club at Morongo Casino, Crossroads at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, a show with Beth Hart at The Knitting Factory in Hollywood, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and joining Nick Lachey. for a few shows on his tour, including a 10,000-seat amphitheater in Georgia and New York City’s Nokia Theater in Times Square.
Due to Mylin’s history and the patriotic nature of her album’s title track and most popular song, “American Girl,” she also played a recent show with Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band at the Galaxy Theater in County. from Orange, Calif. her, and she’s played six shows at military bases in the last eight months. Mylin has a strong following throughout the million-strong US military, who reach out to her from bases around the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mylin says performing on military bases is both “moving and heartbreaking” considering that young married couples and their families are separated by extended periods of military service. Mylin always honors and supports our troops, telling them, “I am grateful for your sacrifice.” Mylin used 3 female Marines from Camp Pendleton (all of whom have been to Iraq) in her American Girl music video. Mylin patriotically says, “Right now, as a nation, we must be united.”
Mylin’s music platform has allowed her to encourage many military soldiers and families, girls and people who write to her on a daily basis. Mylin lovingly encourages young women: “You don’t have to dress or be a certain way to impress people. Being secure in Christ is enough.”
No stranger to life’s hardships and pain, Mylin wisely says, “Life is neither perfect nor free of challenges. Hard and challenging times are often our best moments as God works it out, helps and shapes it.” the character in you”. Mylin transcends pain on purpose to locate God’s plan. She says, “God’s will is not always 100% what we want, but if we pray and obediently accept it, we can be at peace and content. It’s about following Him and living as Christ wants us to.”
“People have to feel it,” she says. “They have to know that you believe what you’re saying. That’s when there’s a connection with the audience.” Mylin has a deep connection to her Maker, which makes her congruent with herself and authentic as a performer. Mylin says, “I would go crazy in the entertainment industry without Jesus.”
Mylin shamelessly acknowledges that her faith in Jesus is the most important thing, allowing her to be who she is and where she is in her career. Her husband and her family, along with her local church, provide Mylin with the encouragement and responsibility she needs to stay spiritually upright and stable in the music industry.
Mylin is a world class live performer with eternity beating in her heart as she pours all her energy and emotion into each show.
