How to maximize gas grill efficiency

There is nothing better than easy cooking like using an efficient gas grill. Most homes today are not equipped with a grill that runs on natural gas or propane. Many homeowners prefer these grills because of their user-friendly features and functions.

On the other hand, people who are on a tight budget may not like shelling out money to buy another propane tank. Compared to natural gas, propane costs more. But the thing is, you can do a lot of things to maximize the efficiency of your grill. Here are some tips you might like to try:

1. Clean the grill venturi. Arguably this is the center of the machine’s gas functions. If the venturi is clogged or malfunctioning, the gas will not flow easily to the grill.

2. Clean burner ports. Make sure the holes are not blocked by debris. Use a small rod and drill holes in the burner to get rid of debris. This will clear the path of the gas so you can easily heat the grill grates.

3. Calibrate fuel tank regulator. Make sure it’s working properly. If there is a gas leak elsewhere, it could waste the power source. Also, leaking propane gas is dangerous. It could rise into the air and cause an explosion. You may want to try rubbing soap into the hoses and parts of the tank near the venturi. Bubbles will appear in leaky areas.

4. When cooking, turn on the grill and set it to its highest temperature setting. Let it act by heating the grills for about 5 minutes. This will ensure that you get a good cooking surface. You can lower the temperature to the correct setting.

5. Cook in batches. If you are cooking large pieces of meat and poultry, do not crowd the grill surface as overcrowding lowers the temperature. It could slow down the cooking process. However, if you want to cook shellfish like shrimp or scallops, it should be fine to crowd the surface. Seafood cooks quite easily.

6. When grilling on a windy day, keep an eye on your gas grill. The wind could blow out the burner fire and this could cause a gas leak. Have someone check the grill if you need to do anything else.

In addition to these tips, you may want to use a gas grill that has a good BTU to cooking surface ratio. In this way, the heat can be distributed properly and you can cook with ease.
