History of the satellite dish
The history of the satellite dish dates back to the 1970s, when there were no satellite TV providers like there are today and while satellite TV was in its infancy in 1976, HBO was the first station to provide its programming to the cable companies by broadcasting satellite television. This, of course, was before high definition and due to the genius and curiosity of a Stanford professor who built his own receiving dish and was able to watch the broadcasts HBO sent out, the C-band dish was born.
This same professor tried to pay HBO for his service and the payment was refused, after this the professor published a how to book on the C band dish because by this time other companies were also beginning to broadcast their programs to cable companies and these the signal was sent without encryption
The C band turntable was extremely large and was placed in the courtyard because it was too large to be placed elsewhere and at the time they were also extremely expensive. As time went by, companies developed the technology to build the C-band dish and because of that, the prices went down and during the 80’s, this was a one-time investment for viewers to watch this programming. Until cable companies and satellite channels realized the consumer market was there for them and began encrypting the signal for those who didn’t pay the cable company for the service. In about 1984, Congress passed the Cable Act, which allowed cable companies to use encryption so that people viewing these channels would subscribe to cable.
The encryption that was in use could be cracked and in the 1990s companies began to use digital transmissions.
Satellite television provider Dish Network began its satellite television programming in March 1996 and along with DirecTV found themselves in competition with cable television providers.
Today Dish Network Company has grown and offers digital television and HDTV programming. They are not the digital satellite TV company of the past, they are now a provider for many Dish TV customers. They offer many channels and shows in high definition instead of providing their channels to the cable companies.
All television programming has changed since the 1970s and 1980s or even the 1990s, one of these changes is the crew. C band satellite dish is no longer an eyesore in the backyard, now the satellite tv satellite dish is small and can fit on the roof where it is not very noticeable and carries great programming on dtv. These channels and programs that are digital television have clean, clear programming with no interference and if the programming is broadcast on HDTV, it delivers an image that brings the program into the room instead of having the feeling of watching a television screen.
Technology has come a long way since the 1970s and continues to improve in high definition, digital, satellite TV broadcast technology, gone are the days of the big dish and the days of relying on what cable TV providers have to offer because digital satellite television is able to offer more HDTV programming and different packages to subscribers to suit the taste of viewers.
