As a parent, you must juggle a tightrope between buying your daughter the clothes she wants and buying her the clothes you’d rather her wear. However, there are ways you can shop for girls’ clothes that are age-appropriate, without having an argument with your daughter about what clothes to buy.
1. First, when shopping for clothes online or at a retail store, shop with your daughter. Ask them to look through the clothes and determine which ones they might be interested in, while also offering suggestions for clothes you think they might like. Always remember to get their feedback and make it a dual buying experience. This will save you from having to return clothes you buy that your daughter can’t wear.
2. Your daughter may want low-rise jeans, but if this is a problem for you, look for jeans that don’t sit too close to the hipbones and are not too tight on your daughter.
3. Don’t buy your daughter t-shirts that are too small for her or that may have expressions that could be considered offensive or perpetuate negative stereotypes. There are countless clothes that you can find online that look good on you and you don’t feel the need to delve into bad taste. If your daughter wants something fun on her shirt, she can easily find what she’s looking for or have something made for her.
4. When looking for outfits online and in the retail world, choose shorts and skirts that can be paired with tops. If your daughter wears jeans or long pants, ask her to wear them with shirts that have spaghetti straps.
5. Most parents will have trouble with sweatpants or shorts that have something printed on the back. There shouldn’t be any reason for your daughter to post something there for people to look at, so she just refrains from it.
You can find many nice outfits on websites that offer classy, yet attractive outfits that don’t try to look edgy or “hip.” You don’t have to sacrifice modesty for good clothes, so don’t feel like you do. Simply explain to your daughter which she would prefer her to wear and why, and she will be surprised how she responds in agreement.
