Disorder versus productivity: the eternal battle

Productivity at work is not something that is achieved by working through clutter. Offices can be pretty messy places and that works against the people who live there. The ability to do office work lies in a focused and productive spell that never really works if there is something that is continually around you: clutter. The universal rule that can be applied to all offices is more clutter, less work. Say goodbye to clutter in the office or do less when you want to do more. It’s that simple, so be sure to do your office cleaning as soon as possible before venturing to work.

Anarchy at the desk, anarchy in the mind: To do a proper job, you have to be focused. However, if you miss a garbage collection day, you are distracted by what you do all day. Think about it. Most office work involves writing or organizing documents. All of this requires one to concentrate. One thing that will spoil the focus of the mind is precisely disorder. A full bin will annoy you every time you have to throw something away. A messy desk will always get in the way when you want to find something. And then there are the constant kicks of the Xerox paper as it tries to circle the desk. Find peace of mind by doing a little trash cleaning in the office and then organizing a little.

Less clutter, more flow – One thing that provides a lot of productivity is work flow. When you are ‘in the zone’, as they say, you are doing excellent and consistent work. But just one setback and you’re back where you started. You have to refocus and start over. That step back can come from searching for items through a pile of papers, kicking the trash, rummaging through drawers, or being distracted by clutter on the desk. It can come from anywhere, so remove your office trash on time, before work, so you don’t get that receipt when you least need it.

Make More Room to Stretch – Office work also includes sitting a lot for hours on end. What helps this condition is the ability to move some limbs from time to time. Make sure you get that option by providing yourself enough waste disposal around the desk. That way, you get more room to stretch one leg when you want to find the perfect position to work out. Try not to kick that trash can, of course. That means getting rid of it, and then more workflow disruptions will follow.

Make room for both your work and your thoughts. More clutter around you has been shown to negatively affect the mind and hamper actual work. If you don’t have time for it, hire a good garbage collection company and they will take care of it. You’ll get your space and workflow back in no time.
