Bible Book Information Relay: A Super Bible Sunday School Lesson for Psalm 119:89

Psalm 119:89 and Isaiah 40:8 say this: “The Word of God is eternal. It stands firm in Heaven.” “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God stands forever.” Life is full of changes. That is something we can all count on. There is another thing we can count on and it is this: the Word of God. Never changes. Our bible verse says that he stands firm and he will forever. Life is full of cycles of coming and going. The grass withers and the flower falls, but the Word of God remains constant. I don’t know about you, but this truth fills my heart with much joy and peace. Here is a fun Sunday school Bible lesson that will help your children appreciate this truth as they research some facts about different books of the Bible. It is called “Bible Book Information Transmission”.

This is what you do:

Divide your class into 2 teams. Set up 2 rows of chairs, one per child, facing perpendicular to a blackboard or other type of writing board. Each child will need the same version of a Bible except for the first chairs in each row. Divide the board into 2 sections, one for each team to write on. In each section, write the following, leaving space for the children to write their answers:

Name of the book:

Book Before:

Book after:

2 story titles:

one.

2.

Number of chapters:

The name of a person found in the book:

First word in the book:

Last word in the book:

Is the book in the Old Testament or the New Testament?

Just before playing, you, the teacher, will write the initial letter of a book of the Bible, one for each team. For example, you can write “L” and “M”. On the word “GO”, the first person on each team will go to the board and choose a book that matches their letter. The kids might end up choosing Luke and Matthew. After writing the book, go back to the last seat in the row and the next child comes forward and answers the next question. Subsequently, the rest of the children move up one seat. The children on a team are allowed to search their Bibles to help the one on the board. However, they are not allowed to leave their seat. Therefore, they can shout responses to the writer. After answering each question, the writer always returns to the last seat and everyone moves forward. If you have fewer than 10 kids on a team, it’s okay if one kid ends up going to the board more than once. The team that finishes first and correctly is the winner. Play as many times as the children want, giving different letters each time.

Before playing the game, you may want to present the lesson as follows:

Who can tell me some changes that happen in life? (Expect responses like babies grow or people change jobs, etc.) Yes. Those are all great examples. Now who can tell me something that never changes? (Wait for the children to respond.) It’s hard to think of something that will never change, but there is something. It is the Word of God. Who would like to read Psalm 119:89 and Isaiah 40:8? (Wait for child to read.) No matter what happens in this world, God’s Word will always be the same. I think this truth shows that the Bible deserves our highest respect. It is worth studying and knowing the Bible.

Let’s play a game called “Bible Book Information Relay” to help us learn some important points about some of the great books of God’s Word.

At this point explain the rules of the game and have fun!
