30 – Tidy up the second desk

“I can’t stand working at a messy desk, it’s messy, it’s distracting, and quite frankly, I don’t want to work.” That’s a comment I get most often when I’m organizing offices and who can blame them? Your desk is your domain, and since you probably spend at least 9 hours a day living on it, you shouldn’t cringe every time you open your eyes. You’ve already determined that you certainly don’t want to continue living with a messy desk, the only thing left to decide is how you’re going to clean it up.

How much time do you want to spend cleaning your desk?

How about 30 seconds? Yes, half a minute. In the time you spend contemplating answering a call or trying to find the cell phone buried under a splatter of papers, you could be sitting at a beautiful, clean desk!

Tidy up your desktop in 30 seconds

Put all pens/pencils in your pencil holder or drawer.
Remove all glasses, soda cans, food wrappers, etc. off your desk and throw them away.
Throw away all empty and torn envelopes and junk mail.
Put your receipts in your receipt envelope/file folder.
All the papers you are working on right now, stack them up and place them on your left… or right, whichever is easier.
All other paper, stack and stack AWAY from your computer monitor.
Take a deep breath and enjoy a clean desktop for at least a moment or two!

You are now on your way to a cleaner, more productive day!

Happy organizing!
