CAR

The 2006-2010 F430 GTC sports car, developed by Michelotto, despite only 50 being made, turned out to be, according to its customers, one of the most popular racers built by Ferrari.

At the time, the Corvette, Aston Martin and BMW had teamed up with Porsche to be worthy adversaries of the 430 Italia GT2 that it now transformed from a 458 road car into a GT Championship contender.

The Ferrari 458 Italia GT2 was introduced in 2011 as the last racer in the GTE class.

The front splitter installed in the road variant was replaced, in the GT2, by a more standardized inlet in which the air was channeled through louvers located in the bonnet.

As a result of the new ACO rules regarding the air limiters to be installed in the engine, the power developed from the 4.5-liter V8 engine was reduced to 464 hp, which was substantially less than the 570 hp of the 458 Italia and 458 CV. Challenge sports cars, albeit still slightly above its predecessor, the 430 GTC’s 445 hp.

Additionally, the 458 Italia developed its output on the 9000 rpm redline, while that of the GT2 was limited to 6250 rpm.

However, this did not negatively affect torque, which remained close to 398 ft / lbs for the road variant.

The 458 GT2 had a curb weight of 1,245 kg, which was 243 kg lighter than the 458 Italia.

The new rules allowed the use of an F1-style six-speed paddle gearbox, but not tied to a dual-clutch system as in the 458 Italia.

In the final analysis, some GT2s used a conventional manual shifter version instead.

Despite such reductions in car performance, the FIA GT Championship was also a test of the driver’s skill.

In terms of its racing credentials, the 458 Italia GT2 won the Le Mans 24 hours of 2012 and 2014, and the 2012 12-hour race at Sebring, along with a handful of victories elsewhere. Technical data:
