History of web browser games

BBG is short for browser-based games. In the late 1990s, browser games had the first sign of light. They were based on DHTML (Dynamic Hypertext Markup Language) which is commonly used for drop-down menus and simple image scrolling. A web browser game is a computer game that is played in a browser. It differs from other video games and computer games in that it generally does not require any client-side software to be installed apart from the web browser. Today we have many web browser games, some of them require a plugin like adobe flash or java script. But all of these plugins are easy to obtain and install. These games are generally free, with additional payment options available from time to time.

The oldest web browser game was Earth: 2025 developed by Mehul Patel in 1996, it was a strategy that was played in a turn-based system. But the most popular ancient game was Utopia, developed in 1999 also a turn-based strategy. In 1999, two games were developed that today are played by millions of people, Hattrick, a real-time soccer strategy developed by extraLives and Runescape, Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, a real-time game in a fantasy world developed by JAGeX.

The newest browser game being played by millions is Evony. Evony is a browser-based multiplayer World Wide Web game, with significant similarities to Civilization. As with many RTS games, you first need to develop resources by building iron mines, quarries, farms, and sawmills, and then start building your city and building an army.

There are many web browser games, especially flash games that are currently distributed on the world wide web. There are billions of websites that offer and develop simple flash games for adults and children. If you check Evony, then you know that in the future we will only be able to see special games that will attract many people who will spend days and days playing.
