German Shepherd: Proper Spelling

I don’t know about you, but I like to spell the words correctly. Unfortunately, things haven’t always been that easy for me. I had a hard time spelling growing up and often missed a lot more words than I wanted on my spelling tests. There has always been something frustrating for me when it comes to spelling. I have a pretty good memory when it comes to other things, but I find it difficult to remember the correct spelling of so many words that are not spelled the way they should be pronounced. All those silent lyrics really baffle me!

I could go on for hours on some of the words that always seem to get me, but there is one that took me by surprise. I have owned German Shepherd Dogs for many years and I can tell you that they are my favorite breed. They are wonderful dogs, but for whatever reason, I went many years without spelling them right!

He had always thought it was German Shepard for some reason. Obviously this was wrong, although it seems like it should be pronounced that way. The silent h in the word really puzzles me.

Anyway, here is a little trick you can use that I learned myself. Since connecting these two things, I have never misspelled the word again. German shepherds were used to herd sheep in Germany in the late 19th century. Note the herd at the end of the word. The “shepherd” part (instead of the sheep) is another story, but I’m sure you can get that part right. I hope this helps!
