Fountain pen for school: is it a good idea?
I would say the answer is a resounding yes, but you must follow some basic principles. First of all, do not use an ink that is considered wet. Choose an ink that dries quickly for you. The paper is also important, some papers have an almost glossy feel, with very little absorption. You should also avoid wide nibs on the pens you use, as writing with a fine nib will dry more quickly. Fountain pens are much less troublesome than ballpoint pens and ballpoint pens. Gel pens can be pretty good, but they suffer from ink stains.
Ink drying is a combination of the ink and the type of paper. Most inks these days dry really fast, this is the most important thing for left-handed writers. If you use some piston fillers in your fountain pen, make sure it has a good amount of ink in it and refill it regularly. Preferably you should use a cartridge pen as you can keep some replacement cartridges of different types in your college bag. I wouldn’t recommend that you keep replacement cartridges in your pockets as they might break or leak, and that’s a mess!
Fountain pens write using their own weight on paper, you don’t need to apply extra pressure like you do with other types of pens. This generally leads to minimal hand cramps, which can be a real problem when writing pages of notes with a ballpoint pen. You should be able to write much faster with a fountain pen, which is of course a real benefit when taking notes.
The last thing to consider is the cost. For college, you really don’t want to take notes with a $ 200 pen. It could be lost, stolen, or someone could borrow it and you’ll never see it again! A $ 20 ballpoint pen will write perfectly for your needs, and when you graduate, you can order that gold-plated fountain pen as a gift!
