Decorating Tips for a Bedroom Sanctuary

The only room in your house where you should be able to relax and get some sleep is your bedroom. But for many people, the bedroom is a multi-purpose area, serving as both a TV room and a children’s playroom. It’s time to reclaim your space and create the shelter you deserve.

Regardless of the size of your home, there is always another place in the house for children to play. Many families make gathering spaces out of the living room and kitchen. But your family shouldn’t have an open door policy for your bedroom.

It is the parents’ bedroom that we are referring to here. Young children and teenagers can go to their own rooms for some privacy. Parents’ private space should not automatically be considered an open game for everyone else in the house. Those days are gone. So get ready to enjoy your wonderful new sanctuary!

First, select a wall color that you find calming.

If you have a preference for orange, go with a muted pumpkin or pumpkin paint color. The goal is to achieve a sense of peace and serenity when you walk into the room, so choose a softer shade of your favorite color. If you like, you can use darker accent colors to add a bit of flavor to the look of the room. It’s best to stick with a versatile color that matches other features in the room.

Base all other colors in the room on the color of the wall. The bedding should be in a neutral tone, so that it does not collide with the walls. It’s so much easier to change the bedding than it is to repaint the walls! You’ll make changes at some point, of course, but make initial design decisions with the understanding that the wall color is permanent and just about everything else in the room can be redone.

You need a bed for an adult.

Your tastes change as you get older. The main considerations for a bed are comfort and suitability for you and your partner. When you were a boy, a canopy bed was a dream, but grown men don’t find them too interesting.

Find the right size bed, one that doesn’t dominate the room. Instead of a big flashy canopy bed, a wooden sleigh bed can take up less space. The bed usually stays in the room for quite some time, so make sure you get one that is the right height.

The general rule is simplicity.

To maintain the theme of serenity, keep your bedroom furniture to a minimum. All you really need are nightstands on either side of the bed and a dresser. Both you and your partner can store your clothes in the chest of drawers. Everything else can go in the closet. If that doesn’t give you enough space, look for a closet that will tastefully accent the room.

A bedroom should offer plenty of room to move. As soon as you open the door, you should feel the clear atmosphere, reflecting your clear mind. The rest of the house can be used to store work documents, toys and other unnecessary items; keep them out of the bedroom.

Arrange lamps around the room instead of using ceiling lights. There’s a special intimate quality to lamps, and they won’t be bright enough to wake your partner when you want to read.

As you can see, you should consider your bedroom as a place of escape. These decorating tips can help you turn your bedroom into a peaceful sanctuary where trouble can’t enter.
