Are dress up games a good option for my child?

Do you think baby dolls in pink dresses and cute skull hats are the most desirable items a girl could want? No, that’s so old-fashioned or, to speak in trendy terms, “so 1995.” Nowadays, it seems that the most popular dolls are no longer made of plastic, they no longer have the doll outfits and their baby shoes. No. Nowadays, dolls aren’t even real anymore, they’re virtual. Virtual dolls will come as no surprise to you, in case you are familiar with the popular dress up games that can be found on a wide range of websites. Wait: virtual dolls that can be dressed as the player, please? Yes, exactly. Well, these dress up games may not be that bad, after all, it seems quite affordable to “own” and play with a virtual doll, oh wait, it’s actually free.

So what do we need to have fun with these games? Well, obviously we need a computer, the only Internet, a few clicks and a lot of imagination. Think about it: these garments do not need washing, ironing, folding, or any maintenance, we simply select them and place them on the figure of the doll. And no, we don’t need to get upset trying to slide those little buttons into their even smaller buttonholes. What a relief!

If you are a mom or dad and your child is playing these virtual dolls and dress up games, you may wonder: Are these games good for my child? Can he/she learn something from them? You may be surprised that yes, your child could really learn something. Of course, not advanced math, spelling or history, but children and teenagers can improve their aesthetic sense and artistic skills; after all, mixing shapes, colors and shapes (as in clothes) can be quite an artistic hobby. Like the painting. Like drawing or coloring and the list can go on. Don’t be surprised if your little one comes up to you and says they want to be a stylist or fashion designer after a few rounds of these dress up games.

And, above all, dress-up games spark imagination and creativity. Of course, at first glance, these games – which seem to simulate the games of 5-year-old girls with their plastic dolls – may seem superficial: after all, they are sequined and glittery clothes, high-heeled boots, jeans, red wigs and oversized earrings. You may tend to think that all these fashion items don’t really build role models for your child.

But think of it this way: Would you rather see your child play one of those shoot, kill, kill games? Monsters, weapons and blood versus cute clothes and fashion accessories – you decide. Dress-up games must seem harmless indeed, when viewed from this perspective. Okay, we couldn’t go that far and call these games quite educational, but hey, they are a preferable and creative choice.
